Rep. Suzanne Schmidt appointed ranking Republican of House Labor and Workplace Standards Committee

State Rep. Suzanne Schmidt, R-Spokane Valley, has been appointed the ranking member on the House Labor and Workplace Standards Committee.

Schmidt, who is serving her first-term, was the assistant ranking member on the committee, but now becomes ranking Republican in this leadership position.

“Having worked in the business and labor arena the majority of my professional career, moving into the ranking member position on the Labor and Workplace Standards Committee will be a natural fit,” said Schmidt. “I feel honored and humbled leadership has selected me for this position. I hope to honor their trust by doing outstanding work representing our caucus.” 

The committee considers issues relating to industrial insurance, unemployment compensation, collective bargaining, family leave, safety and health standards, occupational health, and employment standards, such as wage laws and employment discrimination. It also considers issues relating to the building and construction trades.

“One of my goals is to help our small employers and state economy thrive and work on real solutions to the many workforce issues affecting our state,” said Schmidt

The 4th District lawmaker is also the assistant whip for the House Republican Caucus and she serves on the Rules CommitteeTransportation Committee, and the Postsecondary Education and Workforce Committee.

The 2023 legislative session adjourned on April 23.
